Originally from Virginia, David is now proud to call North Carolina his home of 17 years; he claims the BBQ is better here anyway. Before arriving at Hayes Barton, David served churches in Kinston, NC and in Churchland, NC. He graduated from high school in Kinston, NC (Arendell Parrott Academy); college in Buies Creek, NC (Campbell University, Religion and Philosophy); and, divinity school in Winston-Salem, NC (Wake Forest University). David has three favorite hobbies: tailgating at Wake Forest football games, outdoor photography, and, eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants. He also enjoys coffee shop conversations, cooking exotic foods, reading about God, writing, and experiencing other cultures.
David has three primary goals in student ministry at Hayes Barton:
- To share and teach through word and deed that God is love, and; therefore, Christ’s disciples are called to live out God’s love without reserve
- To create a safe space for honest self-expression, difficult questions, and mutual respect
- To nurture an awareness in our students that God is at work always, in all of creation, when we listen with “ears to hear” and watch with “eyes to see.
Most importantly, David loves the church and the chance to live out the kingdom of God with passionate and faithful youth in Raleigh.
