Your Child's Worship Experience Children's Sermon

At Hayes Barton Baptist Church, we believe that worship is central to our lives as believers. This belief defines the opportunities we provide for our children during worship. We believe that it is important for children to see their family members worshipping.  For this reason, children are encouraged to attend worship with their parents.

We strive to help make each worship service child-friendly. One element that is in almost every service is the Children’s Sermon. The Children’s Sermon allows our children to feel welcome in worship and to hear biblical truths in age-appropriate terms.

If you are visiting our service, look at the bulletin after the first hymn to see if there is a children’s sermon planned for the day.  It usually comes after the first congregational hymn each Sunday. During the last stanza of the hymn the children come to the front of the sanctuary and gather around the minister. After the minister shares with the children and offers a brief prayer, the children either return to their seat or go to children’s church or extended session.

To give our children an opportunity to actively participate in leading worship with their peers, we also provide Children’s Church two Sundays a month during the school year. Children’s Church occurs on the 1st and 3rd Sunday during the school year for 1st -5th graders.  Children leave the service following the Children’s Sermon or hymn that is designated in the worship bulletin.  Each time children come to Children’s Church they are greeted by leaders they are familiar with.  The children have experiences both in large and small groups.

Extended Session is provided for our infants through Kindergarteners to provide them an opportunity to worship in their own environment each Sunday. Faithful volunteers sign up to care for and teach the preschoolers four times a year.  Our 4 and 5 year olds come to the worship service with their extended session volunteers for part of the worship service.  Following the Children’s Sermon, they return to their classroom for a snack and activity time.
